Question about social networking and internet friendships period?
It is no secret now that in this world, for the internet and social networking surpasses our spoiled American society, that now there is no limits. Even for those people that refuse to be on FB and Twitter there are other sites that allow and nurture narcissism. There are sites like these, there’s email, chat rooms, and the list just goes on and on. Do you think, considering all of this and the major impact of the internet on our world that it is very easy to believe that you know someone better than you do when you know them only on the internet? Do you believe that subconsciously we can have this idea that we are CLOSER to people than we actually are when we know them over the internet? Do you think that personal relationships in our society have suffered because of the rise of internet relationships? Would you personally feel a sense of loss if you had absolutely no way of getting on the internet all of a sudden?

The internet makes it easier for a person to construct a facade, but it also make’s it easier for people to be more open about themselves if they struggle to do so offline. The ease of building trust and getting ‘closer’ really depends on the people in the relationship and the circumstances that saw them befriended. Personally, I’ve had a friendship advance very quickly online. It would probably have impossible for me ,or any other stranger,to even get a conversation out the person I meet online. Maybe it’s because the internet can be a place for socialization while the offline world is strictly business.

It disgusts me when I see a couple sitting 12 inches from each other while engrossed in their cellphones and not enjoying each other. I though that kind of anti-social behavior was reserved for people like myself, but people are likely seeing this more and more

Not immediately. After I exhausted all other forms of entertainment (e.g. the videogames I play rarely, books) I would began to succumb to the effects of internet withdrawal. I’ve no idea how to go about spending my leisure time outside of my own house. I’m that pathetic.
