Why do people jump on trends, even if they’re totally ridiculous?
First of all I don’t understand this whole facebook/twitter fad. Everyone and their mother is leaving MySpace and going to these two new things, and when I tried them out for myself I thought, wow, these s8ck. They’re so..underdeveloped in a sense. Where’s the background artwork, the creativity, the video files, etc. It seems like a early, a very early and primitive version on MySpace. Yet everyone’s like “OMG ITS SO COOL its like the new thing, its better than myspace.” Twitter too,..so archaic in a sense.
Do people have any idea what they’re doing or are they just jumping on fads because it’s the thing to do?
It’s so mindless.
Then we have all these phone obsessions, music obsessions, etc, fashion.
Wow, I just answered your other question about why people are so ‘animalistic,’ and you complained about people having opinions. It seems like you’re highly opinionated yourself. As for MySpace, I’d admit, I used to be a member. It was a fun website because I was given the opportunity to customize my page to my liking, add friends and meet new people, and post anything I wanted, but after people kept stalking me and stealing my images and creating fake accounts to mock me, I decided to cancel my account and never return! School was more important and the love for MySpace suddenly vanished. Despite that, MySpace is useful for keeping in touch with old friends, that is, if they don’t get their account banned! To answer your question, people like to have fun. Because of this, if something like a social networking site is fun, word of mouth causes other people to check it out, then they determine if they like it. At that moment, opinions vary, so they either enjoy the page like the mass majority, or they disapprove of it like you. Therefore, someone don’t just ‘jump into fads;’ they check new releases out to see if it’s any good. For instance, did you join Yahoo! Answers because ‘it was the thing to do,’ or did you check it out for yourself because you liked the concept of this site? As for fashion, in different environments, such as varying neighborhoods, school, and even the workplace, clothing determines ‘who you are,’ so fashion is a top priority. Most of us wish to look presentable, and we do so by wearing clothing that makes us look even more attractive. When something new comes out, word of mouth is born, and therefore, people check out the new clothing to determine if it’s better than their previous fashion trend, or to see if it can be blended to with their current to trend to make it more presentable.
